At Harmony, we recognise the power of partnerships in driving community development and economic growth. One of our most valued collaborations is with Barolong Enterprise, a company based in Gauteng that has been a trusted partner for the past five years.


Driving success through partnership: Harmony and Dunlop Belting Products

At Harmony, we understand that our success is built on strong partnerships with dedicated local businesses. One of our key partners is Dunlop Belting Products, a 51% black-owned leading manufacturer of industrial conveyor belts based in Benoni, Gauteng. Since 2019, Dunlop has been an essential supplier to Harmony, providing high-quality conveyor belts and maintenance services across all our sites.


Celebrating Matric Excellence on the International Day of Education

In celebration of the International Day of Education 2025, Harmony proudly reaffirms its commitment to empowering South Africa’s youth through education. This year, we once more had the pleasure of supporting the Matric Excellence Awards 2024, honouring top-performing matriculants, and equipping them with essential tertiary education tools to support their academic journeys.


Empowerment through procurement with Hamisa Engineering and Mining Group

Harmony continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting women empowerment and preferential procurement through a supplier agreement with Hamisa Engineering and Mining group (Hamisa). As part of this initiative, Hamisa will supply personal protective equipment (PPE) to nearly 50% of Harmony’s operations, including key shafts such as Kusasalethu, Target Mine, and Tshepong Plant.


Harmony wins big at the Standard Bank Top Women Awards 2024

At Harmony, we firmly believe in mining with purpose – building a sustainable future where mining is not just about extracting resources but empowering communities, advancing environmental stewardship, and driving inclusive economic growth. We are extremely honoured that our efforts in striving for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion have been recognised in the category “Standard Bank Top Women Business in Construction, Infrastructure and Mining 2024.”


Harmony champions biodiversity at the 4th Business Advisory Group event

On Monday, 2 December, Harmony joined leading businesses and conservation experts at the 4th Business Advisory Group on Biodiversity—a pivotal event aimed at redefining the role of business in biodiversity conservation.


Gauteng Emission Reduction Recognition Programme Awards

Our ongoing commitment to meeting our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) obligations and driving sustainable development positioned Harmony as a key participant in the Gauteng Emission Reduction Recognition Programme Awards, held on 28 November.


Harmony donates outdoor play facility to Tshepisong Primary School

The centerpiece of this project is the Jumanta outdoor play course, a vibrant addition that will transform the school environment. This facility will serve as a powerful tool to foster experiential learning, creativity, and physical development for young learners at the school.


Harmony strengthens stakeholder relations with Merafong City Local Municipality

On 21 November 2024, senior management from Harmony’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainable Development teams, led by Dr. Mashego Mashego, Executive Director for Stakeholder Relations, and Dr. Urishanie Govender, Chief Sustainability Officer, presented to the Deputy Executive Mayor of Merafong City Local Municipality, Councillor Mogomotsi Sello, and his delegation.


Our CEO, Peter Steenkamp carries out internal roadshow

“At the end of this year, after 45 years in this industry and eight years as the CEO of this company, I will retire. This is my last roadshow,” announced our CEO, Peter Steenkamp, during his internal presentation of Harmony’s full-year operational and financial performance for FY24.


More than 4 000 learners benefit from Matric examination preparation camps

4176 Grade 12 learners from 51 schools located in host communities (City of Joburg, Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Moqhaka Local Municipality, Mogale City Local Municipality, Merafong City Local Municipality, City of Matlosana and Ratlou Local Municipality) have benefited from the annual Matric examination preparation camps programme Harmony is running with the Department of Education (DOE).


Harmony has been awarded gold at the Eco-Logic Awards

We are proud to announce that Harmony was awarded gold in the Water Conservation Category at the Eco-Logic Awards on 30 October in Cape Town for refurbishing three municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs).


A demonstration of ESG in action

Harmony celebrated the first deposition at its tailings storage facility (TSF), Kareerand, at Mine Waste Solutions (MWS) on Tuesday, 22 October 2024. This follows an extensive expansion project which will extend the operation’s life of mine to 15 years.


Coffee farmers get boost in coffee production

The agriculture team of Hidden Valley Mine recently launched a nursery project as part of a coffee development programme aimed at preparing coffee farmers for life after the mine.


Empowerment through procurement: Glorificar Trading

Glorificar Trading is a 100% black-owned company based in Welkom within the Matjhabeng Municipality. Established in 2016, the company specialises in logistics and transportation, and also offers rehabilitation, demolition and plant hire services. Harmony’s support has enabled Glorificar Trading to create 27 permanent job opportunities, including three positions held by women.


Harmony nominated as a finalist for the 2024 eco-logic awards

The most innovative and impactful eco-champions in 13 categories have been named as finalists, and the awards ceremony will take place on 30 October 2024. Harmony has been nominated for the Water Conservation Strategy category.
