Harmony questions motivation for inaccurate story

Following a report today by a London newspaper that CE Bernard Swanepoel holds multiple offshore bank accounts, which is untrue, Swanepoel said, “You have to ask where insinuations like this come from – just like the ‘fact’ that Harmony’s shareholders were revolting over our bid for Gold Fields, this one oversteps the boundaries of what is reasonable and smacks of desperation to impugn my integrity.”

Swanepoel’s financial arrangements are fully compliant with South African Reserve Bank and Revenue Service regulations. He holds one account with the UK branch of Nedbank.

“I will be requesting that the SARB investigate the claim that there are other accounts in my name,” said Swanepoel.
