John Munro appointed, Chief Executive Officer of new uranium company
Johannesburg. Monday, 31 March 2008. Pamodzi Resources Fund (PRF), First Reserve Corp, AMCI and Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited are pleased to announce that Mr John A. Munro has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the uranium company created by the US$420 million transaction announced between the above parties on 19 December 2007.
John is currently the Executive Vice President: Head of Corporate Development at Gold Fields Limited, a post he has held since November 2005, which involved executive responsibility for new business, international project development and corporate strategy. Prior to this John was Head of the International Operations Group for Gold Fields and since the formation of that company in 1998, he has been extensively involved in leading the international growth and development of that company.
John read for a BSc Chemical Engineering degree at the University of Cape Town and commenced employment with the Gold Fields Group in 1991, starting at Northam Platinum Limited. He will take up his new appointment on 5 May 2008.
John will spearhead the development of the new uranium company that was jointly announced by Harmony and PRF, whereby certain of the uranium and gold assets of Randfontein, known as the Cooke section, would be sold into a special purpose vehicle.
Once all the conditions precedent have been fulfilled, the Newco will be jointly held by PRF with a 60% shareholding and Harmony with a 40% stake.
