Monday, 3 March 2014: Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited (“Harmony”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alwyn Pretorius as Chief Operating Officer. Pretorius has 20 years of underground deep-level gold mining experience in different supervisory and management positions. He has been an executive of Harmony since 2007 and holds degrees in both BSc Mining Engineering and BSc Industrial Engineering. Tom Smith, who held the role as chief operating officer, has resigned to pursue other business interests. “Tom made an invaluable contribution to the mining industry as well as the company. We wish him well in his future endeavours,” said Graham Briggs, chief executive officer. “Alwyn is hands-on, young and energetic and brings new ideas to our approach to production and safety,” Briggs added.
