Fatality at Bambanani
Johannesburg, Friday, 24 July 2020. Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited (“Harmony” and/or “the Company”) regrets to advise that one of its employees succumbed to his injuries after a mine-related accident at the Company’s Bambanani mine in Welkom, in South Africa’s Free State province.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
Harmony CEO, Peter Steenkamp, has extended his deepest condolences, and those of the Company, to family, colleagues and friends in what is already a very difficult time for all South Africans during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We continue to reinforce safety across all our operations, and urge all our employees to practice safe behaviour on and off duty. The key elements of our safety journey are leadership, risk management and attainment of a proactive safety culture,” Mr Steenkamp said.
