African Banker Debt Deal of the Year award 2023

Harmony’s Sustainability-linked syndicated multi-tranche, multi-currency, loan facility of $400m and R4bn led by Absa and Nedbank, concluded in June 2022, was endowed with the Debt Deal of the Year award at the prestigious African Banker Awards 2023 Gala event, on 24 May 2023 in Egypt.

The event took place on the sidelines of the African Development Bank Annual meetings. The ceremony was attended by over 300 of the continent’s leading bankers, regulators, and policymakers from across the continent.

These funds are linked to specific KPIs aimed at reducing emissions, water consumption and our reliance on fossil fuels. The transaction includes a R1.5 billion, ring-fenced green loan which will be used to expand our renewable projects as we continue to decarbonise, aiming for net-zero by 2045.
