Harmony mines with purpose to be relevant in the lives of employees and communities.

We understand that our activities and the way we conduct our business affect the lives of the people we employ, the communities surrounding our mines and the environment. This impact has economic and social implications for our stakeholders and the countries where we operate.

We invest in meaningful socio-economic development that optimises our impact for the greater good. Our philosophy is to foster relationships of trust with our employees, suppliers, host communities and governments to create shared value that endures beyond our presence in their lives.

Safety

We are determined to prevent loss of life and achieve zero harm across our operations so that our employees can return home safe and healthy each day.

Health and wellness

Managing and preventing occupational diseases remains a priority. Occupational lung disease, noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and heat-related illness remain our key concerns.

Old claims

By working together with all stakeholders, the industry working group reached a settlement agreement to assist former and current employees affected by occupational lung disease.

Wedela Agri-Project

Empowering communities

We sustainably invest in the future of our communities beyond the life of our mines to empower them, and ensure a positive legacy.

Our people

Our approach to employee relations is premised on the firm belief that each employee is critical to our business strategy and should be engaged with on a basis of mutual respect and trust.

Related policies

We conduct our mining activities and associated processes in line with applicable legislation and regulations in South Africa and Papua New Guinea. However, we aim to go beyond compliance levels wherever possible.
